plastic recovery programme
The Bag That Builds™ A simple action for a regenerative future
At CRDC South Africa the bulk of our plastic waste comes through commercial & industrial waste streams, but we also have a collaborative community focused collection program called The Bag That Builds (TBTB) that supports EPR and ESG targets.
TBTB is a registered NPC.
THE BAG THAT BUILDS MISSION
Our goal is to provide a simpler more effective plastic waste recovery & social transformation program
TBTB Incentivises the collection of previously un-collected plastic waste & supports EPR & ESG targets.
It’s designed so that any type of plastic waste (Resins 1-7) can be placed into a single recycled bag (no need to separate out different types of plastic).
The bag and all the un-recycled plastic in it are converted into an Eco-Aggregate called RESIN8™, which is then used to build homes & infrastructure projects in our communities.
Together We Will Build a Stronger South Africa.

Watch The Bag That Builds™ initiative video of the World Rugby U20 Championship teams collaborating in turning plastic waste into RESIN8™ and helping Build A Stronger South Africa Together.
What a remarkable collaboration to take all the plastic waste from Springboks vs Wales, World Cup Sevens and World Rugby U20 Championship matches as well as plastic waste produced at the hotels that housed players and officials around Cape Town and regenerate that plastic waste into our Eco-Aggregate RESIN8™. The RESIN8™ was used in all types of concrete products, including bricks, blocks pavers, ready mix, pipes, kerbs and channels and more in partnership with concrete manufacturers.
“In total, when you add up all the tournaments, we’ve collected almost nine tonnes of plastic waste and put it to use. That has translated into 85,000 bricks turned into 24 units built in Khayelitsha, Greenville and Eerste Rivier – some of the most under-resourced and disadvantaged
areas around Cape Town.”
